چکیده

Single-junction microcrystalline silicon c-Si:H solar cells of selected i-layer crystalline volume fractions were light soaked AM1.5, 1000 h at 50 °C and subsequently annealed at increasing temperatures. The variations of subbandgap absorption during light soaking and during thermal annealing were monitored by Fourier transform photocurrent spectroscopy. The kinetics were shown to follow stretched exponential functions over long times such as 1000 h. The effective time constants appearing in the stretched exponential function decrease with decreasing crystalline volume fraction as well with increasing annealing temperature. Their Arrhenius-like dependence on temperature is characterized by a unique value of the activation energy. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the configuration of the solar cells p-i-n or n-i-p does not influence the degradation kinetics, as long as the average crystallinity of the intrinsic layer is of comparable value. © 2008 American Institute of Physics. Annealing Behaviour and Nature of Defects of Light-soaked Microcrystalline Silicon Solar Cells

In this paper, we show that the kinetics of annealing of light-induced defects in microcrystalline silicon is similar to that of amorphous silicon. Dilution series of pin and nip single-junction microcrystalline silicon (μc-Si:H) solar cells were light-soaked (AM 1.5, 1000h at 50°C). Their relative efficiency loss between initial and degraded states depends on the i-layer crystallinity. Subsequ...

Thin film silicon solar cells for space applications: Study of proton irradiation and thermal annealing effects on the characteristics of solar cells and individual layers

The paper reports on the effects of a proton irradiation campaign on a series of thin-film silicon solar cells (singleand double-junction). The effect of subsequent thermal annealing on solar cells degraded by proton irradiation is investigated. A low-temperature annealing behaviour can be observed (at temperatures around 100 to 160 C) for microcrystalline silicon solar cells. To further explor...

Proton-induced Degradation of Thin-film Microcrystalline Silicon Solar Cells

This paper investigates the stability of dilution series of pin and nip microcrystalline silicon solar cells under low-energy proton irradiation (E = 405 keV). Variation of electrical parameters, defect-related absorption and Urbach parameter are investigated as a function of irradiation and annealing steps. Highly microcrystalline cells show a relative efficiency loss of up to 80 % after proto...

Light-induced Degradation of Thin-film Microcrystalline Silicon Solar Cells

This paper evaluates the stability of a pin and a nip dilution series of microcrystalline silicon solar cells when exposed to white light (AM 1.5-like spectrum). Variation of electrical parameters and defect-related absorption is investigated as a function of light soaking and annealing steps. Cells of medium crystallinity show less than 10% reversible relative efficiency loss after 1000 hours ...

Thin-film Silicon Solar Cells for Space Applications: Radiation Hardness and Applications for an Integrated Solant (solar Cell - Antenna) Module

A new device called “Solant” (for SOLar cell – ANTenna) is presented in this paper. It is a combination of thin-film amorphous silicon solar cells and flat printed antennas. A proton irradiation campaign has also been carried out on a series of n-i-p amorphous and p-i-n micromorph [microcrystalline (μc-Si:H) and amorphous (a-Si:H)] silicon tandem solar cells. The effect of thermal annealing on ...
